Part Two:
Chapter Nine)'Eight Letters & Three Words'
Olivia threw the clothing into the sack. She would travel light. She would steal a horse. She rose the knife that she had gotten from the blacksmith. Shutting her eyes and she began hacking away at the dark curls. Not too much where she would seem unappealing but just enough were she would seem un-recognizable from the far away eye. She couldn’t look into the mirror. She didn’t want to see the person staring back.

Next stop was the kitchen. She would grab just enough food to get her to… where was she going? It didn’t matter, she would go to France. Start over. She began grabbing the nearest things. At that moment while she was stuffing a piece of bread into her mouth Vanora walked in. “What ye be doing in here raiding my food supply?”

“…”

“Well speak up for ye self before I take your tail to Arthur,”

“No…no…no,” she said putting up her hands, shaking them like a child just caught doing something that they weren’t supposed to be doing.

“Oh my goodness darling what happened to your hair?”

“I cut it,” she bluntly said.

“Oh dear child look at your beautiful curls,”

Olivia sighed. She was oh so dramatic. It was only about three inches off. “I needed a change,” she said squeezing past Vanora although she didn’t make it easy.

“Where do you just think you are going to. Hm? You look as if you are going to take to your heels and high-tail your narrow behind out of here? May I be right?”

Olivia looked over her shoulder. Her eyes were blank. She normally hated lying but this was definitely an exception. And she mechanically shook her head no and kept on walking. As soon as she exited the room she couldn’t shake the words that Galahad had said. She had heard I love you before. Those eight letters and three words... It was a summer romance between a rebellious teenager and a Roman commander. That was all. He left. And the last time she saw him was when she was told that he was going to Britain to speak with her brother.

She felt the draft sweeping up her body and infiltrating her cloak. She hadn’t remembered it being so cold. But then again Olivia hadn’t noticed much lately. It was indeed ever so warm in Rome… Paris couldn’t be nearly as nice
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Olivia lost her footing, startling the horse so he began wildly pacing around the stable. She fell in the process. Hurting her back and making it so when she got up there was an imprint from her back in the mud… and whatever else happened to be in the mix. “Ouch,” she yelled out. It hurt to move. To breath. A sharp chronic pain began shooting through her body. Moving from her back to her chest, and even her legs. She clamped her eyes shut, and tried to breath, praying and hoping that it wouldn’t heart. When it did she opened her eyes and looked around her trying to find a way to make it out of the stables. Her hair was a messy, disheveled mop covering her face so she couldn’t see. She removed the hair in the midst leaving chunks of mud to stick strands together making a even bigger mess. She noticed that she had dropped her food and pack and her clothes were even just as messy as her hair and the once white dress was now more than smudged. More so completely covered in mud. Her cloak had untied.

She felt the strong hand pull her weight up although she was still stuck on filtering in everything and realizing what had just happened.

“What are you doing,” Tristan said realizing she was actually hurt. He pulled her to him until he saw the grimace on her face.

“Ouch,” she said. Even after she was done speaking her face remained turned up and in an O as if it hurt even to speak.

“What hurts?” the scout asked pulling her into his arms. She even winced at that and although she tried to act is if it wasn’t hurting her he could tell it was meaning that she had either hurt her hip or her ribs.

She burrowed her head against his chest and clutched his tunic in her fists, leaving ripples in his shirt after she unclenched her hand.

“Guess I’ll have to continue searching for Gawain tomorrow,” he thought. Olivia allowed slumber to overcome her fatigued mind and dreams to infiltrate the usually guarded layer.

4 Years In The Past
Olivia pushed herself through the bodies. So much commotion for one commander. From what she heard he was quite the legend. Almost identical to her brother. She had on a white flowing dress, made from airy fabric so It would seem to float over the gray cobblestones revealing perfectly sandaled feet. Her hair was flowing as always despite the two braids braided together in the back/middle if her hair to empty into the rest of the curls. The hair dos the other ladies wore were to elaborate and time costly. Olivia could have sworn that she caught the eyesight of the commander. She had heard much about him since there was much speculation that she would someday marry the warrior and although she explained over and over that she would never marry because Arthur wouldn‘t allow it people still continued to talk, talk, talk. “Someday dear, he, who is heir to everything of his father’s, whom happens to be a duke will become your husband. There, that is his brother next to him. You see?” Roxanne directed to the younger woman. Olivia was to busy watching “him” though.

“Who is he, Roxanne? The one next the uh… father…err duke or whatever,”. Roxanne sighed.

“Child you’ll never learn. That is the second highest ranking Roman commander. He’s fearless in battle they say. They also say if it weren’t for the wealth, the church influence, and political influence of the Gashburgs - the duke and his family- he would be the lead commander. Of course those are Rumors as far as my ears are concerned. Besides, those words aren’t supposed to ever be spoken again in the court. They call him Sir Scorpion. Fearless in battle. They say he conquers everything he sets out to do,”

“And his real name?” Olivia asked intrigued now.

“Ethan,” Roxanne quietly said as she wished not to say it at all. “He is trouble Olivia. They say he leaves a trail of broken hearts and bodies wherever he be. I’m telling you this now…” Roxanne looked at Olivia who’s cold eyes were still following Ethan. “Are you even listening child?”. Roxanne’s stern voice reached inside her daydream and pulled her mind back to reality.

“Yeah… yes, yes Roxanne,” Olivia sighed. Roxanne with her stern words and scolding glares was so tiring. But that was what made Olivia love her.

“I think Pelages is much to lenient to you, you know? For a fifteen year old in Rome it just doesn’t make do for him to not even be considering a future suitor for you,”

“I know Roxanne you only tell me of this ten million times a day,” Olivia loudly said so her words weren’t lost in the sea of everyone else’s out to welcome back the fighters and welcome to Rome the commanders that had been gone so long. She began pushing people aside so she could walk along the banister that was holding everyone in. She wanted to walk alongside it so she could see him as much as possible. So from the day of streamers and over-the-top extravagances came an infatuation.

“Only… once or twice a day actually,” The older “mother figure” said, shaking her head to the royalty, who was running now, keeping her eyes on the white horse that “Sir Scorpion” rode atop. It seemed the child would never learn.

Midnight
Olivia looked over the balcony. How would she climb that far. It wasn’t far enough to the point where she couldn’t jump but far enough to the point where if she were to slip she would break a bone. That would set many straight. Maybe she could start a rumor that she had fragile bones and they would never be sturdy enough to bear a child. But Olivia was not much into self-induced pain.

“Need help?” the deep voice came to her. At first she thought she was dreaming since she was about six feet from the ground.

“Who’s that?” she said. Looking down might just have gotten her killed since she had taken the bold chance of taken her chances and found herself hanging from the gallery.

“Need help or not?”

“Yes, that would be quite nice,”

“Fine fall into my arms,”

“What?” this fell into the category of self-induced pain for Olivia.

“Fine,”

“No, no alright,”

“Just drop and I’ll catch you,” the man insisted.

Olivia unclenched one hand leaving her hanging at an angle and screaming. Then she clamped her eyes shut and dropped. She felt arms grab her just before she hit he ground. Olivia inhaled and exhaled deeply. Her eyes were still shut and the arms still encircled her. “I’ve never been so trusting of a stranger,” she opened them and looked behind her, “…especially one that they call Sir Scorpion,” she said pushing him away.

Ethan opened his mouth to say something but the guards that were running around the corner prevented him from doing so.

“Milady you are supposed to be in your room!! We heard you scream are you alright?’

“Just fine,” she said smoothing out her dress. She didn’t successfully escape from the castle but she had said gotten the introduction she wished for to Ethan.

2 Months & A Week Later
“You’re playing a child’s game in an adult world you know that?” Ethan said looking back at the child that was watching him. “You are supposed to be at dinner. I can get you into a lot of trouble you know?”

“I know,” Olivia stepped forward. Ethan had brown hair. It was always disheveled but perfectly disheveled. He was the type of person you thought spent hours making his hair look messy. His eyes were green. He had the most amazing eyes. Sometimes Olivia could talk to him and she would find she hadn’t heard one word that escaped his mouth because she found herself lost the sea oasis of his eyes.

“What are you doing out here?”

“What are "you "doing out here?” she countered.

“The same thing you are,”

“Well I’m here to tell you that everyone would fancy you in the seat left for you at the table. The dinner is held to commemorate you as head commander of the Roman army and mourn Sir Gashburg’s death. It’s rather rude that you choose to be absent,”

“I’m a commander. Not some glass doll for everyone to view upon. I fight, I win battles so Rome doesn’t have to worry about the barbarians for a day or two,” Ethan tiredly said walking away.

2 Years Later
The usually cold eyes lit up. Olivia excused herself from her ladies. Much of them just sniffled and whispered something to another. They were supposed to be her friends. She smoothed her dress and walked past the men standing there conversing about something that seemed important. She could feel his eyes on her. The seventeen year old smiled to herself. She walked, bounced more so over to Pelages. The look in his eye made her automatically top her bouncing. Her cheerfulness faded. One word and she could be sent to a covenant or an abbey somewhere. Her eyes were cast to the ground. “Do you know naught that people talk here? They see your eye games at dinner, eye the way he watches you, and in a second rumors began flying. When you speak he listens, when you question he answers. Do you wish for your own reputation to be ruined my child,”

“Do you feel I care? Do you seriously think I care what those women say about me when they aren’t falling over me trying to… to find out anything of my life?”

“But I do. Some things I can’t stand to hear about you,” he quietly said so no one else could hear around him. She had never seen him so worried. He was always a rock of assurance.

“I know what they say. I hear it around corners, whispered behind my back. I don’t care,”

A Year Later
Ethan pulled the smaller figure into his arms. He just rested his head in her hair and inhaled. She was like a younger sister to him. They weren’t “together“ as most thought. Maybe once or twice but their relationship ran so much deeper. He rested his hand in the small of her back and the commander shut his eyes. It felt so good to feel close to someone. To feel someone’s body pressed against his. She pulled away a bit. Her small hand rose to finger the side of his face. She used her thumb to smudge something invisible and rub it into his skin. He shut his eyes and allowed her finger to comfort him. “…Good,” he began.

“Shh,” Olivia shushed him. “I’ll see you when you shall return. This is not a goodbye, just a break as I see it,” she chuckled a bit and smiled at him. Her eyes were watery and he ran his thumb along the bottom of her eye.

“I’ll see you later,” he tried to laugh. It was awkward, especially seeing as how he hardly ever laughed. There were rare times when she would catch him smiling or a chuckle would slip out and Olivia would just stare at him. At his intoxicating smile. “I love you,” he said just barely kissing her ear since he was so closely pressed up against it.

There was a message sent for Ethan to join her in the balcony. It wouldn’t make do for her to go see him because then the rumors would really start flying. He was to leave tomorrow for Britain. His fingers tangled into her curls. “God I love those so much,” he said planting a kiss somewhere in the soft baby-like hair. “If there’s one thing you could do for me, stay the same for me. So when I come back I will remember you without having to peer,”

“I know… you can count on me,”

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Olivia,” Arthur cradled her chin in his hands. She was laying at the foot of the bed so she could actually see the people that came to visit her since she had to lay on her stomach. “Look at you,” he began fingering the bruises and cuts on her cheeks and then his hand automatically moved to her hair. “What…”

“Please don’t brother. I needed but a change is all,”

Just at that moment of self-righteousness Tristan burst into the door with an awkward eagerness no one had ever really seen him possess before.

He eyed Olivia. “We must speak,” he quietly said to Arthur trying to avoid Olivia’s eyes and the thank you he knew he would receive.

“You can say anything in front of my sister,”

Tristan sighed. “Arthur… Merlin has him. And he wants peace in return,”

Arthur automatically knew what that mean't. Tristan might as well have said. "Arthur... Merlin wants Olivia in return for Gawain,"

A/N: I didn’t know how to spell Pelages so I just went with what spell check gave me. Well I was surfing Fallen Knights and caught a picture of Hugh... I realized to my astonishment and horror that his eyes indeed aren't brown... I'll be going back through and trying to edit everything but I don't know how long that'll take. For now, hope you liked chapter nine and chapter ten is on it's way. There's a year time lapse in between the last flashback and when she arrived in Britain which would be when she was eighteen. Hugs & Kisses to my faithful readers and reviewers!!
